It is handy for invoices, bills and price checks. Whether you are quoting a customer, checking a supplier invoice or working out the tax hidden inside a price, this calculator gives you a clear, accurate breakdown.

What is a VAT Calculator?

A VAT calculator works out the value added tax on a price. In Add mode it adds the tax to a net price to give the gross price. In Remove mode it strips the tax out of a gross price to reveal the net price and the tax already included in it.

Add VAT: VAT = Net x rate/100, Gross = Net + VAT. Remove VAT: Net = Gross / (1 + rate/100), VAT = Gross − Net.

How to Use the VAT Calculator (Step by Step)

  1. Enter amount.
  2. Enter VAT rate %.
  3. Select Add or Remove mode.
  4. Press Calculate for net, VAT and gross.

Example Calculation

For Rs 10,000 with 12.5% VAT in Add mode: VAT = Rs 1,250.00 and Gross = Rs 11,250.00.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I remove VAT from a price?

Divide the gross price by (1 + rate/100). The result is the net price; the difference is the VAT inside the price.

Is VAT the same as GST in India?

Most Indian VAT was replaced by GST in 2017, but VAT still applies to items like petrol, diesel and alcohol in states. This calculator works for any VAT or GST-style percentage tax.

Why can I not just subtract the rate percent to remove VAT?

Because the tax inside a gross price is a percentage of the net, not of the gross. Subtracting rate% of the gross gives a wrong, lower net figure.

What VAT rate should I use?

Use the rate notified for that item in your state or country – rates differ by item category.
