GATE Score Calculator

Use this free GATE score calculator to work out your GATE score out of 1000 using the official GOAPS formula. Enter your marks, the qualifying marks for your paper and category, and the top 0.1% average marks, and you will instantly see your normalised score.

This calculator is useful whether you are estimating your score before the official result, planning admissions, or comparing your performance across years on the same 0-1000 scale.

What is a GATE Score Calculator?

The GATE score is the normalised score out of 1000 awarded by GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System). It converts raw marks into a common scale so candidates from different papers and years can be compared fairly for admissions and recruitment.

Formula: Score = Sq + (St - Sq) x (M - Mq)/(Mt - Mq), where Sq = 350, St = 900, M = your (normalised) marks, Mq = qualifying marks, Mt = average of top 0.1% in the paper. Below Mq, the same line extends proportionally.

How to Use the GATE Score Calculator (Step by Step)

  • Enter your marks out of 100.
  • Enter qualifying marks Mq for your paper/category.
  • Enter Mt (top 0.1% average, published with the result).
  • Press Calculate.

Example Calculation

Example: M 65, Mq 29, Mt 85 gives GATE score 703.57 out of 1000.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are Sq and St in the GATE formula?

Sq is fixed at 350 - the score given at exactly the qualifying marks. St is fixed at 900 - the score given at the top 0.1% average marks (Mt).

What is Mq (qualifying marks)?

Mq is the higher of (a) the mean + standard deviation of all candidates' marks in the paper, or (b) 25 marks, as published for each paper and category.

Why does the same raw mark give different scores in different years?

Because Mq and Mt change every year with paper difficulty and candidate performance. The formula rescales marks onto a common 0-1000 scale.

Is GATE score the same as GATE marks?

No. Marks are out of 100 from your answers; the score is the normalised 0-1000 value from this formula, and ranks/admissions use the score.
